The sequel to Monroe’s Map will reprise protagonist Felix Monroe in the role of a controversial teenage astronomer with a skillset that the world is both threatened by and in need of. Picking up where the first book left off, Felix braces himself for unprecedented experiences as he packs a bag to go to Chimney Pipe—the site of the spaceship crash. He’s only just begun his senior year at Wolf Ridge High School, and as he’s packing, we get a glimpse of what exactly he has planned for his custom space probe and how it's being built. Until now he’d managed to avoid the conspiracy surrounding the moon, but it’s been haunting him ever since he returned from Mexico. He knows he’ll have some spare time on the drive to Chimney Pipe, so he puts the business card that the journalist gave him in Batecón in his bag. Before he leaves, he asks Taylor to take over for him at Jack’s jade mine if he doesn’t come back, and he implores Carmela to finalize a legal strategy that'll help him go toe-to-toe with Sloan Atkinson in court. When he finally hits the road, he doesn’t look back. He already knows NASA is still surveilling his house and that there’s nothing he can do about it. He just wishes he knew why.
